There are many places of interest and amusement parks to visit in de surrounding area. Most of them are reachable by bike.

The Canadian War Cemetery

The Canadian War Cemetery is located four kilometers north of the cottage. The field of honour 'Holten Canadian War Cemetery' at the Holterberg, is one of the most impressive commemorative sites of World War II. After five years of oppression, in the spring of 1945, it was due to the deployment of mainly Canadian armed forces that the Northern and the Eastern provinces of the Netherlands were liberated. In the Holten Canadian War Cemetery, 1394 soldiers have found their final resting place.

The hike Ligtenbergerveld (from Rijssen to Holten, 14 km), created bij the NS, will pass the Cemetery.

The nature museum N atuurdiorama on the Holterberg

The nature museum 'The natuurdiorama Holterberg' is in the vicinity of the Canadian War Cemetery and is located on the road Holten - Nijverdal. It is easily reachable by car, bike or on foot by a pleasant walk from Holten.

Various walking routes are available at the Natuurdiorama.

There are several restaurants nearby the Natuurdiorama. The Natuurdiorama is eminently a resting place during a walk across the Holterberg.

Adventurepark Hellendoorn

Have a day of fun with the children? Adventurepark Hellendoorn offers guaranteed a full day of excitement and fun. Adventurepark Hellendoorn is located about 20 km from Holten. A distance to be taken in half an hour. The park is closed during the winter. Ask in advance for the opening times. You can order tickets online and these are even cheaper.

Adventorous outdoor activities

Total Outdoor Events is located in Rheeze, south of Hardenberg. In a unique piece of forest you can find different activities, such as paintball, quad driving, mountain biking, canoeing, inline skating. It is also possible to do archery, climbing and playing a fun game of farmers golf.

Activity park Wilgenweard

Total Outdoor Events don't offer enough activities? The activity park Wilgenweard offers many great activities like archery, canoeing and rafting trips, various forms of bike rental, Nordic walking, and (if there is snow) skiing. Caving and even abseiling are possible. In short, an exciting day is guaranteed.

Rijssens Museum

Rijssens Museum is a medium-sized regional museum with a varied exhibition situated in the Havezate Oosterhof. Located in the beautiful landscape, only 200 meters from the town of Rijssen. The collection includes clothes and utensils. But the manor is worth a visit. Since 2003 in the manor is also located the International Fire Museum. This museum is worth a visit too.

Swimmingpool Twenhaarsveld

The communal swimmingpool Twenhaarsveld is located about three minutes cycling. This heated pool is located at the Landuwerweg 21 in Holten.

Het Wereldtijdpad (The World's Time Schedule)

Het Wereldtijdpad in the first place a walking route through an attractive and varied landscape. It goes through the border area between Salland and Twente. It consists of nine linked circular walks with a total length of 50 km. Route 6 through the Borkeld starts at a short distance from the cottage. Of course it is nice to walk other parts of Het Wereldtijdpad. Large parts of the route are passable by bike.

Schildkerk te Rijssen

In the centre of the town Rijssen, 10 minutes driving from our cottage, is for centuries the Schildkerk (church), popularly called de grote kerk (big church). This church is nice for everyone.

Walking

Of course you can walk in the many beautiful natural areas in de neighbourhood. Just go and walk through De Borkeld, De Sallandse Heuvelrug, Het Wierdense veld or estate Twickel in Delden.

Cycling

Many of the above attractions are reachable by bike. Bicycles can be rented at Jan Stam. Jan Stam is located about 10 minutes cycling from our cottage.
